Morocco has been on my Bucket List for as long as I can remember. Seriously, I have wanted to visit the Sahara Desert ever since my sister read me The Little Prince when I was five years old. The description of the vast desert fascinated me. I wanted to see it for myself.

Like most of the globe, we took a travel hiatus during the pandemic, so we were itching to get back on the travel trail. My wander lust had kicked in big time! We decided to do not one, but two epic adventures. Chris and I both have birthdays in January, and we usually like to do an epic birthday trip. So we decided to each pick an adventure. Chris picked Ecuador and I picked Morocco! (To read more on our epic adventure to Ecuador, stay tuned for my Ecuador adventure blog series.)

So many countless movies and films have been shot in Morocco. It always seemed exotic and exciting. Just saying Casablanca and Marrakesh out loud gives me chills. But guess what?! You can't get to the Saharra Desert reliably in January. The pass through the Atlas Mountains is often snowed in. So we bumped my choice to October. I made Chris pinky swear that we would absolutely do it. And not get tired, or busy or flake in any way. He promised, so we pushed the trip to October. It was a very good decision.

My expectations for Morocco were high. Let me say though, the real thing did not disappoint! After all that hype and expectations you would think the likelihood for a letdown was high, but we were both pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed the country, the people and the food. Oh the food!

As veggie travelers, food ranks very high on our list when we choose travel destinations. I was a tad worried that Morocco, given how unfamiliar we were with the country and the remote locales we wanted to visit, would present some challenges in finding plant-based for options. But let me just say, we had some of the best vegan food I have ever eaten in Morocco. (And that is saying something.) I think a lot of it came down to preparation. I got online, I read countless blogs and guides, I mapped out every potential veggie, vegan and veg-friendly restaurant in every city and tiny village we were planning to visit. And boy am I glad I did! It really paid off. Stay tuned for future blog posts featuring the amazing restaurants and food we found in Morocco.

And if you are thinking of visiting Morocco, and have questions, please leave me a comment. Or send me a chat. I will happily share all I learned on this amazing adventure. And stay tuned for future posts on our route and itinerary, amazing cities and experiences and of course amazing food!

That's me, in the Sahara Desert! I finally made it. Lifelong bucket list item...check.
