Morocco is actually a pretty big country with a lot of amazing places to explore. So how do you choose where to go and how to get there? It can be a bit daunting. What helped me, research, research, research. I gained so much invaluable insight from reading other blogs. (It's actually one of the reasons I decided to start Strange Tribe. I wanted to pay it forward to other travelers and share what I learned.)

We opted for a 10 day itinerary that took us in a loop beginning and ending in Casablanca.

Our main stops included:
Casablanca
Marrakesh
Skoura
Mersouga/Sahara Desert
Fes
We spent a couple of nights in each city/stop. (Except for Skoura, which was just an overnight stop to break up the long drive out to the Sahara) Skoura ended up being a true surprise and delight. And the place we stayed was amazing! (They also went out of their way to make us tasty vegan food, including a stuffed pizza/pastry and mango sorbet)

One of the top things I wanted to do on this trip was to visit the Sahara Desert. As I’ve mentioned, it’s been on my list since I was a kid. We even rearranged the timing of our voyage to facilitate our passage over the Atlas Mountains. What I didn’t know before I started researching the best way to see the Sahara, is that there are a multitude of amazing Glamping opportunities on the edge of the Sahara near Mergouza. Glamping (short for glamorous camping) is gaining popularity worldwide. And let me just say, glamping in the Sahara Desert was pretty amazing! It was well worth the extra couple of days required to get there and back.

If I were to do it again, I would have spent more time in Fes. The old capital felt far more relaxed than the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh. I wished I had an extra day to wander and explore the narrow market alleys of the souks.

We definitely want to go back again on another adventure! I’d like to spend more time in the Northern part of Morocco. Are you dreaming of an adventure to Morocco? What’s on your list? And if you’ve visited before, what would you recommend not to miss?
Stay tuned for more posts on our Morrocan adventure where I’ll go into more detail on each place we visited, the epic things we experienced and the amazing food we ate!
